Brecken Sue Bird

ARTIST BIO

Brecken Bird (b. 1993, Murray, Utah) is a multidisciplinary artist who creates self-portraits as a way of exploring identity and perception. Her process involves creating theatrical sets, costumes, and characters in which she acts as stage manager, director, and lead actor. Her one-woman performances are then documented using color photography, pastel drawing, and cyanotype printing. In December of 2025, Bird was an artist-in-residence at the Chateau d’Orquevaux International Artists and Writers Residency in Orquevaux, France where she began a series of self portraits about her relationship with religion and spirituality. She continued this series as an artist in residence at The Common Well in Garden City Idaho, as part of the Alexa Rose Foundation’s Show and Tell Residency Program, from April to September of 2026. Bird received a Bachelor’s of Fine Art with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting from Utah State University in May of 2016. She currently lives and works in the Boise, Idaho area.
